Leg Swelling

Leg swelling is a common condition treated by Dr. Lorenzo at Vein Care Solutions. Patients with venous insufficiency often have problems with leg swelling.

During the course of the day, there may be some deterioration in valve function, even in normal extremities. This process is more exaggerated in patients with reflux in that there is more leakage of the fluid component of the blood.

With time, the leak includes red blood cells. As these cells deteriorate, the breakdown product of hemoglobin called hemosiderin, will stain the skin a dark brown color.
